LOT #1299 – 1969 Ford Mustang “Ford Team” Drag Car will be selling with No Reserve at our 2022 Scottsdale Auction.

The late 1960s was one of the most electrifying periods in drag racing history, as pony cars and muscle cars battled for straight-line superiority one-quarter-mile at a time.

At the upcoming 2022 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, January 22-30, at WestWorld in Scottsdale, one lucky bidder will go home with a piece of drag racing history with a documented provenance.

The car in question is a 1969 Ford Mustang campaigned by Sam Auxier Jr., one of the top Ford drag racers of the Woodstock era. This car, which will be offered with No Reserve, was built to campaign in a predecessor of the Pro Stock class of today known as the Ultra-Stock class in the American Hot Rod Association and several other sanctioning bodies.

The Auxier Mustang was restored to its original specs when it competed in 1969. Under the hood is a fierce, tunnel-port side-oiler 427 cubic-inch V8 engine topped by a factory single-plane dual 4-barrel intake manifold and a pair of Holley 780cfm carburetors.

Auxier took the car to the Hurst Shifter factory in Pennsylvania, where the first Super Shifter was installed and tested. Inside, the car has an aluminum dash panel with Stewart Warner gauges, and the cockpit is autographed by Henry Ford III.

Even more important than the equipment in the Auxier Mustang is its well-documented racing history. This car, with Auxier at the wheel, won the 1969 NAAR (National Association of Automobile Racing) Spring Nationals. Auxier also won a number of events staged by Super Stock and Cars magazines in this car. At the Cars Magazine Shootout, Auxier bested Pro Stock legends Ronnie Sox and Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins to win the event for a second year in a row.

This gorgeous piece of drag-racing history has been featured in countless magazine articles, in books and has appeared at numerous car shows over the years. Bid well; this one is going to go fast.
