Gold Coast Tilapia Busters December 2020

Gold Coast Tilapia Busters December 2020

Event Description:

The Gold Coast Tilapia Busters Event is the biggest Pest Fish event in South East Queensland. Run by City of Gold Coast with assistance from My Catch Australia and Gold Coast Fishing Fanatics, the event was launched originally in 2015. The event is a free community event designed to raise community awareness of Tilapia’s devastating effect on the environment.

The day aims to remove Tilapia and other introduced fish (Goldfish, Koi and European carp) from the lakes while raising awareness of further issues effecting water quality.

Mozambique Tilapia (Mozambique mouth-brooder) is an introduced fish that competes with our native species, damages aquatic plants and increases water turbidity (cloudiness).

The event is family friendly! Parents bring your kids! Kids bring your parents for a fun filled morning of fishing.

This year due to COVID-19 the competition will be run very different to the previous events. As per below:

  • There will be no onsite sign in on the day. Sign in is done by completing the below City of Gold Coast Indemnity Form. You must complete the indemnity form online prior to event start.
  • There will be no crowds or stage this year. (Weigh in will be a drive through drop off system to minimalize hand to hand contact)
  • Fishermen/Fisherwomen must abide by the current COVID Legislation and keep 1.5m away from others outside of your family.
  • We will be running a live stream through Gold Coast Fishing Fanatics’ page to announce the winners. Anyone who wins a randomly draw prize will need to collect their prize from The Bait Shop Gold Coast.
  • Whether you want to fish as an individual or as a family/group it’s personal preference as prizes will be drawn on a random weight this year. Everyone gets a chance at a prize regardless of how many fish you weigh in.
  • There are no category prizes or divisions. This will give everyone a equal opportunity to win a prize weather you weigh in 1 fish or 10kgs of fish.
  • You are welcome to fish as a group in order to maximise your catch. However, the groups weigh will be logged under the name of a single person in your group. One Group = One Prize.
