In the past couple of years driving the new Corvette C8, I’ve grown to respect it even more after my very first impressions because there’s nothing else out there like it for the money that touts such a high level of performance. Having a chance to revisit the new Corvette for the 2022 model year but in a fully loaded 3LT convertible trim I am still enamored how the C8 is such a value that’s able to hit 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, basically the level of many modern exotics and nearly that of new supercars.

While some may not consider the new Corvette an exotic, it is certainly within reach of a category with its performance out of the box and the proper design to fit the part. With its 6.2-liter pushrod V8 engine pumping out 495 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque and has the upgraded bits and add-ons as part of the Z51 performance package, in addition to the Z51 performance suspension with magnetic selective ride control, and performance traction management to round out top-level of performance out the new C8 before the Z06 arrives later this year. Power is sent out back through the electronic limited-slip differential where the high-performance tires grip when they up to temp thanks to the balance of the mid-engine design. There’s something wonderful about a mid-engine vehicle and especially one that cost just under six figures but feels like you got a bargain.

The new Corvette C8 Stingray is a marvel and anyone who questions its ability just doesn’t know what a special vehicle it is, or they have failed to experience one for themselves. The high level of attention to detail and engineering goes the distance to reiterate the bargain that the new C8 Corvette constantly reminds you of. One of those times is when you enable launch control to hit 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds time after time where the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission fires off snappy shifts and magically slips its clutch in a manner to help limit the wheel spin.
